Drumhierny Woodland Hideaway

A Walking Wonderland

Located in the townland of Drumhierny, situated between Leitrim Village and Battlebridge, this Woodland Hideaway Estate is the site of the former hunting lodge of the La Touche family, a Hugenot family that escaped religious persecution by fleeing France in the late 1600s. Predominantly covered by both broadleaf and conifer trees growing within the grounds, the highlight of the Estate is most definitely an ancient area of protected oak woodland which is extremely rare in Ireland.

Drumhierny is located over-looking both the Shannon Blueway and the River Shannon and can be reached via The Woodland Trail. The remains of the hunting lodge are still evident.

You are more than welcome to visit Drumhierny, to wander the woodlands and spend some time in the lovely outdoor café area, complete with rugs and cushions to make your visit as cosy as possible – here you will feel immersed in nature, in amongst the trees.

Tucked away in the original walled garden is the Outdoor Wellbeing Sanctuary, surrounded by the historic walls and ancient oak trees. Here, you can take some time out to disconnect and enjoy the seaweed baths, outdoor hot tubs, sauna and lounger.

The team at Drumhierny have gone to great lengths to salvage naturally fallen hard and soft wood timber from around the Estate. They are committed to sustainable forest management and manage an extensive tree planting campaign to offset their carbon footprint as much as possible. The outdoor café area is a fine example of sustainability in action!

We certainly recommend a visit to Drumhierny. It is a unique destination only a very short drive from Carrick-on-Shannon and is well worth a visit.
